Fishtown penguins also dominate at Christmas

The Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven remain at the top of the table in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) even after the Christmas holidays.

The North Germans won 4:2 (2:1, 2:0, 0:1) against bottom team Iserlohn Roosters on matchday 31 and maintained first place ahead of the Eisbären Berlin, who had previously won 2:1 (0:0, 2:1 , 0-0) against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg.

The top duo have already pulled away from their pursuers, the Straubing Tigers are already seven points behind Bremerhaven and six behind Berlin in third place.

The Tigers won 4:2 (0:1, 2:1, 2:0) in a Bavarian duel against defending champions Red Bull Munich, with double packer Mark Zengerle (23rd, 40th) outstanding for the guests. Munich slipped to fifth place behind the Kölner Haien, who made a strong comeback in a 4:3 (0:0, 1:3, 3:0) win against the Löwen Frankfurt and are preparing for the Rhine derby against Düsseldorfer EG on Thursday (19.30). Bremerhaven was once again able to rely on its top Slovenian duo Ziga Jeglic and Jan Urbas. Urbas scored the opening goal (10th) and made it 2-1 through Colt Conrad (13th) and 3-1 from Jeglic (25th). In Berlin, meanwhile, all the goals came in the second third.

With a 3:5 (2:1, 0:0, 1:4) win against the Schwenninger Wild Wings, the Adler Mannheim suffered a setback in the fight for the play-off places, which directly entitle them to take part in the quarter-finals. For the Adler it was the third defeat in the third duel of the season with Schwenningen.

The DEG celebrated the early contract extension with the sought-after national striker Alexander Ehl, but then lost a home win that was believed to be certain in the 4:5 (1:0, 2:1, 1:4) against the Augsburg Panthers by conceding four goals in the final minutes. Runner-up ERC Ingolstadt took sixth place in the table with a 3:2 (1:0, 0:0, 2:2) win against the Nuremberg Ice Tigers.
