Fishermen joined farmers’ protests against the government’s nitrogen plans on Monday. They have already blocked the harbor of Lauwersoog in Groningen with their boats. Action group of cutter fishermen Eendracht Makes Power (EMK) is also announcing protests in other places such as IJmuiden and Den Helder.
The fishermen are not yet revealing exactly what those actions will look like. According to them, the way of campaigning differs per location, as does the time.
Halfway through last month, EMK and the Dutch Fishermen’s Union had already announced that they would join the protest. According to them, it will no longer be possible to fish off the Dutch coast due to the nitrogen plans of the cabinet.
