Fish of the year is megrim
The election of fish of the year is an initiative of the Flemish Center for Agricultural and Fisheries Marketing (VLAM)
Last year the choice fell on shrimp, so now it is megrim, an undervalued fish species, which is at its best in the summer and autumn months, and is currently mainly exported. Megrim is a by-catch of the Belgian sole fishery. “It is a fish that rightly deserves even more promotion and that many of our well-known chefs like to work with,” says Flemish minister Crevits.
