Fish mortality in puddles due to drought: “Urgent action”

“The normal level of the water here in the Ardooivijver is up to here. Everything used to be under water up to here. So we can only conclude that the level has dropped by 1.5 meters to 2 meters.”

A natural buffer has formed. Already in March Kurt Himpe asked to make a breach so that the fish can go from the small to the large part. Because now they are in danger of getting into trouble. The provincial services are working on it, they say.

“Saving carp”

There are also a lot of companies in the area that collect groundwater, which means that the level drops even more. In this domain there used to be a natural supply of water from another pond, ‘t Zeetje, but that is no longer possible due to adaptation works.”
