First women’s classic in De Kuip sets a spectator record, although the title seems to be for Twente | Dutch football

The women of Feyenoord and Ajax played a Classic in the Kuip for the first time today. The nearly fifteen thousand spectators (a record for a match in the Eredivisie for women) saw that the visitors easily won 1-4. The final score had already been reached at halftime.

Cup winner Ajax postpones FC Twente’s championship party for a while. The leader won 3-0 at home against PSV and can only miss the title in theory. The difference between Twente and Ajax in the ranking is three points, while Twente also has a much better goal difference (+68 at +49).

Friday evening on the last day of play, the two title rivals will face each other in Amsterdam. Ajax must then win with double figures to keep Twente from an eighth national title.

First time in Kuip

Feyenoord, which is fifth in the ranking, will make its debut in the Eredivisie for women this season. The first Classic in Rotterdam was won 4-1 earlier this season, but that happened at Varkenoord. Today, the team of trainer Danny Mulder was allowed to play for the first time in De Kuip.

However, the vast majority of the 14,618 spectators did not get to see what they had hoped for. Ajax made short work of the home club and was already 0-3 after just over fifteen minutes, thanks to goals from Romée Leuchter, Nikita Tromp and Chasity Grant. Feyenoord did something back via Kim Hendriks, but in the 32nd minute Victoria Pelova already determined the final score at 1-4.

However, Twente also did what it had to do. Captain Renate Jansen scored two goals against PSV before half-time. In the second half, striker Fenna Kalma signed for her 33rd goal of the season. KNVB director Jan Dirk van der Zee had taken the bowl with him to Enschede, but he can only hand it out during the last round. The championship of Twente is unofficial for the time being.
