A first trailer has been released for the Little Richard documentary “Little Richard: I Am Everything”. The film premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival in January and will be released in US theaters on April 21. No release date has been announced for Germany yet. Directed by Lisa Cortes.

“Through interviews with family members, musicians and leaders in the African American and queer communities, the film reveals how Richard created an art form for the ultimate self-expression, but what he enabled the world he could never enable himself. Throughout his life, Richard has bounced back and forth between God, sex, and rock ‘n’ roll like a shiny, broken pinball. The world tried to pigeonhole him, but Richard was a jack of all trades,” the official description reads.

In the second half of the 1950s he was one of the most style-defining rock’n’roll musicians, including with his album “Heeres Little Richard” (1957). In 2013 he announced his departure from the music business, but the last new release was “Little Richard Meets Takanaka” in 1992. Richard Wayne Panniman, as Little Richard’s real name is, died on May 5, 2020 at the age of 87 from a bone tumor .
