The time has come: The main journey day for the 40th Rock am Ring has started. The campsites opened their goals for the legendary festival on Wednesday (June 4) at 12 noon, but traditionally Thursday is the day on which most visitors take their trip to the Nürburgring inside.
Traffic jams and accidents on Wednesday
However, this year, Wednesday seems to have become a test of patience for many fans. As the police told the “SWR”, there were several kilometers of traffic jams around the Nürburgring and the access roads to the campsites – apparently much more than in previous years. There were also several accidents in which fortunately nobody was injured. So far, Thursday has been running calmly.
According to the police, the access roads are well signposted. The police and organizers call for the information signs and diversions on site and not to rely exclusively on the navigation system.
App should help with the search for space at Rock am Ring
On Instagram, the organizers of Rock am Ring indicate their festival app. This can be used to check the utilization of the individual campsites so that fans can specifically control a free space. “Open the app, find a spot, whip the tent,” it says.
It is only one day left until the festival’s official start – but the weather may not play entirely. For the weekend, cloudy and sometimes rainy weather is predicted.
Both Rock am Ring and the twin festival Rock im Park were sold out in record time this year. According to the organizers, all 90,000 weekend tickets went away – day tickets were not offered this time. The first acts begin on Friday morning (June 6th), until Sunday (June 8th) around 100 artists are to appear on a total of four stages – one more than usual, on the occasion of the 40th festival anniversary.
