First tour in 21 years, and without the Abbott brothers

Metal band Pantera are planning their next tour – their first in over 21 years. Now there should also be new successors for the band’s deceased brothers, Vincent and Darrell Abbott.

Vincent and Darrell Abbott are replaced

Although bassist Rex Brown said last year Wylde would not be touring with a reunited Pantera formation, the late brothers’ estate executors have reportedly given the green light to the arrangement: guitarist Zakk Wylde and Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante will join vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown play the “Reunion Tour 2023”. The tour includes several stops in North America and Europe – Pantera will also be represented at festivals.

dimebash scandal

Darrell was murdered in 2004 while performing with his band Damageplan in Columbus, Ohio. Vinnie Paul died in 2018 from complications related to heart disease. Despite the long break and the new band line-up, the planned tour for Anselmo is not entirely unproblematic: the singer triggered a major scandal in 2016 when he gave the Hitler salute at Dimebash 2016 and called “White Power”. Anselmo initially claimed that the action was just a hoax. They drank white wine backstage – hence the prank.

“I fully stand by what I have done”

Speaking on Housecore Records’ YouTube channel, he explained: “Anyone who knows me and my true nature knows that I don’t believe in any of it; I don’t want to be part of a group. I’m an individual and I apologize 1000 percent to anyone who was bothered by what I said, because you should have been bothered by what I said.” But lies have short legs – the singer should also know that. To the ROLLING STONE He didn’t offer another apology, just saying, “What I’ve done, I fully own.”

The tour dates are not yet known. Here’s how Anselmo’s scandal began with white wine – and ended with a Nazi salute:
