First prize passes the nose of handball players VOC: “The cover collapsed”

VOC did not manage to win the cup final this afternoon. The handball players lost 36-30 to competitor Venlo. The traditional final battle in Almere was on the program for the first time since 2019 (due to corona).

The beginning of VOC was still good. The handball players led 6-3, although it was soon equal (6-6). The remaining part of the final was even, until the Limburgers made a hole just before half-time: 19-16.

VOC could not recover from that blow and things went from bad to worse. The margin was even expanded to six points in the second half (27-21). The handball players still fought for what they were worth, but to no avail. The last time VOC won the cup was in 2018. “We started the match well. After that it collapsed and we conceded far too many goals. Our coverage was not on”, was the comment of VOC trainer Rachel the Haze.

HV Volendam will play the men’s final against Hurry-Up this afternoon from 4 pm.

Final championship

Both teams will also meet each other in the battle for the national title in the coming period. In a best of three series, it will be decided who can call themselves national champions. The first final is next Saturday from 2 p.m. “The trick is to patch up the team in one or two days and work towards that other prize”, De Haze looked ahead.
