First participants voting aid Kieskompas: majority of voters do not want to oppose nitrogen policy

The province should not oppose the national nitrogen policy to protect farmers. This is the opinion of almost half of the participants who have completed Kieskompas so far. In a week’s time, the voting aid for the Provincial Council elections, drawn up in collaboration with NH Nieuws, has already been used 40,000 times.

After a weighted correction, it appears that for the time being 47% believe that the province should not oppose the nitrogen policy, while 12% are neutral. After Utrecht, this means that there is the most support in North Holland. But that does not mean that there is no resistance, quite the contrary. Because 38% of the respondents do think that the province should throw the ass in the crib.

Most support for the policy comes from the 18 to 34 age group, followed by the 35 to 49 age group. Among the over-50s, you see that more people oppose the nitrogen plans.

Least support among BBB voters, most among BIJ1

Looking at the last parliamentary elections (March 17, 2021), the most support for the nitrogen policy comes from BIJ1 voters (90%), who incidentally do not participate in the provincial elections in North Holland. Followed by GroenLinks (88%) and Volt (85%).

Not surprisingly, the least support comes from the BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB) voters. 0% supports the nitrogen plans. There is also little understanding of the policy from the supporters of the Forum for Democracy (4%) and the PVV (7%).

Whether or not farmers are forced to buy out

There is great division about the forced buy-out of farmers to reduce nitrogen emissions. A small majority of 47% does not agree with this, while 42% can discuss it.

Accountability research

These results are based on research by the Kieskompas research institute. The
data collection for this study took place in the first week that the Kieskompas was live. This resulted in a weighted sample of 23,709 weighted respondents from Noord-Holland with a margin of error of 1.1%. The results are weighted by province, gender, age, level of education and voting behavior in the parliamentary elections in March 2021, so that the results on these characteristics are representative.
