There are some international changes ahead of September Fashion Weeks. This emerges from the first reports of the British Fashion Council (BFC) and the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM) for London Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week SS23, which were published by WWD and the AFP news agency, among others.
For the first time, Belgian designer Raf Simons will present a runway show at London Fashion Week, which runs from September 16-20. Simons has already presented his own label in New York and Paris and last winter presented his autumn/winter 2022 collection in a digital fashion show outside of the fixed dates of the fashion weeks.
For Simons, “it has been a dream to present in London for a long time,” the designer told WWD. Simons describes London as a city “where fashion and creativity run the streets and where I see exceptional people with a strong and unique style”. Simons: “I’m delighted that this dream is now coming true and I’m excited to welcome the amazing people and faces that are part of the London fashion scene to my show.”
Victoria Beckham part of the Paris Fashion Week program for the first time
Conversely, the British designer Victoria Beckham travels to Paris with her brand of the same name. Beckham has previously shown her collections in New York and relocated to London in 2018, where she hosted her last physical show in February 2020. Online shows followed in September 2020 and February 2021. Last February she was conspicuously absent from London Fashion Week; the fall 2022 collection was only shown in one showroom. According to various media, it would have been too expensive for the brand to organize a full runway show.
The collection, which Victoria Beckham will present at Paris Fashion Week SS23, is the first from Design Director Lara Barrio, who was appointed in February. Barrio previously worked at Chloé and as chief designer at Salvatore Ferragamo.
An international program
The program of Paris Fashion Week SS23, which runs from September 26th to October 4th, will be quite international anyway. The FHCM has already announced that Australian label Zimmermann, British brand Awake Mode, Ukrainian label Anna October and Chinese brand Ruohan, among others, will be showing their collections during the fashion week. The full program of Paris Fashion Week SS23 will be announced at the end of August.
Alongside the Raf Simons show, London Fashion Week is also planning Burberry’s first physical show in two years. This is also the first collection since new CEO Jonathan Akeroyd joined the company.
Other brands set to attend London Fashion Week include JW Anderson, Emilia Wickstead, Erdem, Huishan Zhang, Molly Goddard, Rejina Pyo, Supriya Lele, as well as Nensi Dojaka and SS Daley, both LVMH award winners. The full London Fashion Week program will be online in mid-August.
