“A micro home can have many forms, such as square, small, round, organic (natural shapes), earthy or with green roofs,” the municipality of Westerveld wrote in its plans in 2022. There are, however, a number of specific requirements. A house may cover a maximum of 30 square meters, but it can be built upwards, the houses may be nine meters high. The micro homes are also connected to the sewerage and electricity.
The municipality therefore deliberately calls the homes ‘micro homes’ instead of tiny houses. Because, “tiny houses have the property of being mobile,” is the position of the municipality of Westerveld.
The houses are intended ‘for anyone who wants to live small or smaller’. “These can be starters, single households, but also people who consciously choose to leave a smaller ‘footprint’. Given the small plots (100 square meters), the homes are also feasible for starters,” says Westerveld.
Ultimately, Westerveld made eight plots available for micro homes in Kalterbroeken at the end of 2022. These were raffled among registrants. There will also be shared facilities such as parking spaces and two shared storage rooms. The residential area is located on the west side of Diever. There is a lot of peace and nature there.
