First Made in Bangladesh Week presents innovations in the field of sourcing and sustainability

Time is money, and even more so in the fast-paced world of apparel manufacturing. So how do you engage stakeholders long enough to make meaningful connections and effect change? This will be achieved with a week-long event in Dhaka in November and the sustainability efforts of the clothing manufacturing companies in Bangladesh will be shown.

The first-ever Made in Bangladesh Week (MIBW), to be held in Dhaka from 12-18 November 2022, aims to showcase Bangladesh as a world-class garment manufacturing hub and bring together stakeholders from all over the world.

“The apparel industry in Bangladesh is making great strides towards sustainable production and continues to build a stable ecosystem with key players within the supply chain. We believe that sustainability is not just about meeting social, environmental and community commitments, but also about building a strategic coalition among the broader stakeholders for a sustainable, resilient, modern, fair and equitable supply chain,” says BGMEA President Faruque Hassan in a press release.

Made in Bangladesh Week consists of 17 events

MIBW will break new ground in scope, scale and aspiration as it will feature 17 events including 3rd Dhaka Apparel Summit, Dhaka Apparel Expo, Bangladesh Denim Expo and Fashion Innovation Runway, as well as conferences, panel discussions, photo exhibitions and factory tours.

The event, co-organized by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE), also includes awards including the Sustainability Leadership Award, the Sustainable Design and Innovation Award and the Made in Bangladesh Photography Award. In addition, the BGMEA Innovation Center is to be opened.

“We are breaking new ground with this groundbreaking event. With industry sourcing teams and other executives constantly pressed for time, we wanted to offer a range of physical shows, exhibitions, seminars, networking opportunities, factory tours and much more, all in one place over the course of a few days.” adds Mostafiz Uddin, Founder and CEO of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange and Bangladesh Denim Expo.

In total, the new event is expected to attract more than a thousand people from Bangladesh and abroad, including key players in the local and global fashion industry such as garment and textile manufacturers, trade associations, and representatives from politics, business, embassies and media.

“In recent years, we have undergone massive change in the areas of safety at work, the environment, sustainability and compliance. Our vision for the next decade is to explore new areas of opportunity, growth and excellence. Modernization, innovation, diversification and technological upgrading are key, while also prioritizing the health, education and well-being of our employees,” stresses Hassan.
