Thanks to a hat-trick from international Kevin Volland, AS Monaco made it into the second round of the Europa League. The Monegasque defeated Red Star Belgrade 4-1 (2-0) on Thursday evening and ended Group H in second place ahead of Süper Lig representatives Trabzonspor (all groups and matchdays), who also won.

30-year-old Volland, whose market value had to be reduced significantly in the Ligue 1 update, first hit with a head (5th minute), then with a foot (27th / 87th), and Belgrade’s Milan Rodic (50th) also scored an own goal. Guélor Kanga (54th) scored a penalty kick for the Serbs. For Volland it was only the second hat-trick in his professional career after a hat-trick in Bayer Leverkusen’s shirt in April 2018 in a 4-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt. They were also his first goals in the current competition
