Record winner THW Kiel has won the Handball Supercup for the twelfth time.
Coach Filip Jicha’s team defeated champions SC Magdeburg 36:33 (16:16) in Düsseldorf on Wednesday evening and thus secured their first title of the season for the third time in a row.
The Austrian Nikola Bilyk was the best thrower of the cup champions from Kiel with eight goals. The Magdeburg team, who were champions again after 21 years in the first showdown of the season, missed out on winning the Supercup for the third time.
The duel between champions and cup winners is the traditional season opener, the handball Bundesliga starts the new season on Thursday. Kiel meets TVB Stuttgart on Sunday, Magdeburg begins the mission of defending the title against league newcomer ASV Hamm-Westfalen.
