First Dutch evacuation flight departed from Khartoum

Defense picked up evacuees from the Sudanese capital Khartoum in the night from Sunday to Monday, reports the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On board was an unknown number of people with different nationalities, including the Dutch.

With the help of Dutch marines, the evacuees were taken to a Hercules transport plane, which flew back to Jordan. There they were met by a so-called Rapid Consular Support Team (SCOT). This team consists of employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who take action in the event of disasters or conflicts.

The first Dutch people left the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Sunday with a French plane. In addition to Jordan, at least one of those planes went to Djibouti, writes Foreign Affairs. Different countries help to evacuate each other’s citizens.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had contact with 152 Dutch people in Sudan on Sunday, but not everyone chose to leave. Some don’t want to leave their families behind, others can’t get to the airport. In addition, there are still Dutch people with whom the ministry has no contact, but how many is not clear.
