First ‘digested tourist’ spotted at Amsterdam Central, but phenomenon seems extinct | Inland

Since Queen’s Day was changed to King’s Day after 2013 (which means we celebrate it three days earlier), ‘fermented tourists’ have been popping up in Amsterdam every year. Completely dressed in an orange outfit, they look around disappointed: ,,Where’s the party?”

The first fermented tourist of this year has already been seen by several people. Lost with a briefcase, he walked through Amsterdam Central station on Saturday, various people report in the Telegraaf tip line. The man got a lot of attention and many people laughed.

Old travel guides

The fact that for years credible tourists turn up in the capital is due to the old travel guides. The old Lonely Planet said we Queen’s Day celebrate on April 30. That was changed a year later. In 2016, a consolation party on a boat was even organized especially for these ‘victims’: the Missed The Boat Partywhere revelers could cruise on an all-orange boat with bells and whistles.

Extinct

Yet it seems that the one lost tourist at Amsterdam Central is the only one. The phenomenon of ‘digested tourists’ seems to have died out in the meantime. An employee of the StayOkay Hostel in Amsterdam says that they have not seen tourists in orange dungarees on April 30 for years. Nor did they spot any fermenting tourists on Saturday in the NH Hotel in the capital, an employee says on the phone. “We really only experienced this in the first few years.”
