first concert in 36 years

Frankie Goes to Hollywood will play a concert with the original line-up for the first time since the band broke up in 1987. On May 7th, the opening ceremony of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place in her hometown of Liverpool, with Holly Johnson, Brian Nash, Paul Rutherford, Mark O’Tool and Peter Gill sharing the stage. FGTH have been active again and again in recent years – but never in groups of five like at the beginning of their career.

Singer Johnson shared the information in an Instagram post, much to the delight of his Instagram followers. “I hope you realize how happy you are making so many fans around the world with this decision to work together again after all these years,” wrote one user. Hopes for a possible tour were also raised on the platform: “Tell us you’re planning a tour,” was another comment.

Getting the band back together for the event is “a good thing,” guitarist Brian Nash said BBC told. However, the reunion is not a complete concert, the BBC continued. Alongside Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Liverpool bands Atomic Kitten, The Lightning Seeds and The Real Thing, as well as former Eurovision winners Jamala and Conchita Wurst, are on the program for the opening ceremony.

In 1984 Frankie Goes To Hollywood reached number one in the UK charts with their first three singles. “Relax” became the second best-selling song of the 1980s, despite being banned from BBC Radio 1 after DJ Mike Read said the lyrics were “obscene”. They broke up in 1987 after a falling out and reunited in 2003 for the VH1 show Bands Reunited, although they did not perform on it.
