First ‘competition top match’ for PSV… against Go Ahead Eagles

It may sound crazy, but PSV-Go Ahead Eagles is a winner. At least if you ask Peter Bosz. The club from Deventer was promoted in 2021 and is therefore only playing in the Eredivisie for the third year in a row. Yet they are doing surprisingly well this season and the Eindhoven club has been warned.

Go Ahead Eagles are in sixth place in the rankings with one match less played than number five Sparta. That can be called surprising, but not for Peter Bosz. “It doesn’t surprise me that they are in that position. Go Ahead Eagles has a nice team that has been together for a while. That is paying off.”

“We have to convert that euphoria into a flow”

But it is clear that PSV ‘just’ has to win on Wednesday evening. The Eindhoven team wants to become champions and should therefore not leave anything behind in these types of matches. But Bosz still increases the pressure on his team. “I said this is our first top match of the season.”

Bosz spends all day keeping his team sharp. “We started with that from day one. We want to become champions and then you have to keep each other sharp. Let’s not get too euphoric after the first five games. We have to convert that euphoria into a flow. If that happens, I won’t have to do much more, but we’re not there yet.”

“As a little boy I took the train to Go Ahead Eagles”

“Everyone expects us to win twice this week,” Bosz continues his story. “But that’s what makes this match so difficult. We just have to do it.”

By the way, Peter Bosz has warm memories of the club from Deventer. “As a little boy I took the train to Go Ahead Eagles. Then I bought a ticket for the youth stand, but secretly went to stand with the hard core. That was a great time.”
