First bluebells are in bloom in Heuvelland

The blue-purple flowers on the Kemmelberg and Rodeberg tempt you to take beautiful photos. Yet every year there are people who, accidentally or not, trample them. “You are allowed to take pictures, but from the footpath. Otherwise we will get into trouble in the future,” says forester Erwin Verfaillie.

Stewards who keep an eye on things, such as in Flemish Brabant and East Flanders, will not be there for the time being.

Real carpet

In Heuvelland, other plants grow between the bluebells, which makes it difficult to find a real carpet of flowers. In one spot on the Kemmelberg, however, fallow deer eat all the flowers except the poisonous bluebells. They get free play there.
