Three against Cadiz
Ilkay Gündogan has won his first win in the Spanish LaLiga with FC Barcelona. The Catalans beat FC Cadiz 2-0 (0-0) at home on Sunday evening. The German international started Pedri’s 1-0 lead in the 82nd minute with a perfect pass into the penalty area.
The decision came in the fourth minute of stoppage time when ex-Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski passed on a goal kick from national goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen to Ferran Torres, who had come on just nine minutes earlier. Torres fired in from ten meters and let the home side, who had to do without their coach Xavi, who was suspended because of a red card, celebrate the first three on matchday two.
The coach then criticized his team’s effectiveness despite the threesome: “It’s not really our thing. We should have scored much earlier.” This is exactly why the club signed Gündogan in the summer, “to make the difference with the last pass.” (quoted via Barcawelt)
Meanwhile, Xavi had a lot of praise for the youngest debutant in Catalan club history since the spring. Right winger Lamine Yamal, now 16, made his next mark in the history books on Sunday – never before has a younger player featured in the Blaugrana’s starting XI. “He’s a very mature player for his age. He can make the difference and is very well prepared. He contributed a lot today and is a great talent,” the coach summed up.
