On Sunday, March 12th, a week after the death of Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington, his bandmates dedicated the song “Tuesday’s Gone” to the deceased at a concert.

Concert in homage to deceased founding member

The current performance is the first since Rossington’s death, with “Tuesday’s Gone” showing pictures of the deceased guitarist. The song is taken from Lynyrd Skynyrd’s debut album, and the lyrics describe then-frontman Ronnie Van Zant’s realization that life as it was has gone with the wind.

According to American ROLLING STONE, visitors to the Plant City Strawberry Festival were also able to hear hits such as “What’s Your Name” and “Gimme Three Steps” as well as “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird” live.

More about Lynyrd Skynyrd and Gary Rossington

Rossington was the last living founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd and died the day before last (March 5) at the age of 71. His colleagues released a statement on Facebook after his death: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of our brother, friend, family member, songwriter and guitarist Gary Rossington today. Gary is now in heaven with his Skynyrd brothers and family, taking it easy like he always did. Please keep Dale, Mary and Annie and the entire Rossington family in your prayers and respect the family’s privacy at this time.”

In 1964 he formed a band with singer Ronnie Van Zant and drummer Bob Burns, which became Lynyrd Skynyrd. The guitarist survived the tragic 1977 plane crash that killed Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines and backing vocalist Cassie Gaines. The band then broke up. After a ten-year hiatus, the group re-formed in 1987 with Ronnie’s younger brother, Johnny Van Zant, as lead singer. Thus began a second, still ongoing phase.
