First 5G campus network in Schleswig-Holstein at the TH Lübeck in operation

In cooperation with companies in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, the engineers at the TH Lübeck develop solutions in the field of safety technology. For example, 5G technology can be used as a communication platform for fire brigade operations. “In the future, 5G can enable the fire brigade and rescue service to transmit important data quickly in real time. The whole thing happens before arrival at the site of use, for example to be able to estimate the spread of smoke gas – independently and portable,” explains the project manager Prof. Horst Hellbrück one of the projects that will be supported with 5G technology.

The competence center is working with local companies to develop further examples of application. “Exciting questions are already being investigated in our 5G laboratory and then implemented in practice as a laboratory prototype. So far, we have only worked with the 5G campus network in this laboratory,” adds Horst Hellbrück. CoSA’s 5G projects include “5G-TELK-NF” and “Baltic Future Port”, in which 4K video applications and remote controls for drone flights and vehicles, for example, are planned.
