On Thursday afternoon, pyrotechnics were thrown at police officers in Berlin-Neukölln. A police officer was injured.

According to the police, four police officers checked a 17-year-old in the hallway of a house on Hermannstraße at around 4:45 p.m. because he was suspected of having shot a fireworks rocket across the road.

During the check, a stranger suddenly came down the hall and threw pyrotechnics at the emergency services. The fireworks exploded right next to them with a loud bang. Although the perpetrator was immediately pursued, he managed to escape.

According to the police, however, civilian investigators discovered him shortly thereafter when entering a residential building on Kienitzer Strasse. After he had left again, they temporarily arrested the 18-year-old after a few meters at the corner of Weisestrasse.

The young person’s personal details were recorded. He didn’t have more pyrotechnics with him. He now faces charges of causing an explosive device, assaulting law enforcement officials and causing grievous bodily harm.

The police officer was taken to the hospital where she was treated as an outpatient. After that she ended her service.
