In about two weeks the time will come: it will be New Year’s Eve again and quite a few people will light their own fireworks on the street. More and more people are against it because it is all dangerous stuff and many trips are made to the Eye Hospital every year. Does this all have to continue like this? Opinions vary.

Frans himself stands out

In any case, Frans Bauer is a fan of fireworks, he says in the talk show Renze. “I like fireworks, yes, I think they are beautiful.”

Host Renze Klamer: “Also do it yourself?”

French: “Yes. If I get the chance, I will. I’m seriously a fan of it. It is of course wise that you do this safely.”

Renze: “But would you rather watch a fireworks show or bring home a few packages?”

The Chinese

Frans brings his own supplies into the house. “Well, I’m honest. I really like cutting things off myself. I think there is something beautiful about it. The Chinese do it every day.”

Renze laughs: “That’s always a good excuse. I do agree with you. I used to be really… I knew what a firecracker cost in six different fireworks stores. I knew absolutely everything, but when you see the statistics about the number of accidents every year, you think: yes…

Fireworks shows

Renze thinks we might be better off going to central fireworks shows. “If you go to a fireworks show like that, you will have much nicer fireworks than I can afford myself and you will still be close to them.”

Frans: “I can still see myself walking as a child, right? I used to. There was also something exciting about it.”

Renze: “It was very exciting, but it was also not always completely safe when I think back. I think it would be better if there were fireworks shows, but you would prefer to keep lighting them yourself?”

Certain age

Yes, says Frans. “Yes, I thought it was beautiful as a child, but to be honest: it is dangerous, so the way you portray it is important. Maybe you have to scale it down to a certain age.”

Just ask the Chinese…
