The fragments between the management board and the Supervisory Board seemed glued last Tuesday. However, the governance crisis has acquired a new chapter tonight after the information evening in De Jozef in Volendam. Chairman Jan Smit verbally fought with Supervisory Board chairman Jaap Veerman and that resulted in quite a bit of commotion.
After peaceful presentations by Ruben Jongkind (head of study programmes), Jasper van Leeuwen (technical director) and Frans ten Berge (business director), the bomb exploded after an hour and a half. Supervisory Board chairman Jaap Veerman intervened in the discussion and did not agree with the picture outlined. “Don’t come up with a fallacy afterwards. Last week, Wim Jonk was accused of abuse of power.”

Jaap Veerman went against the budget deficit of 1.2 million outlined and showed this by asking critical questions. Jan Smit did not agree with that criticism and decided to take a flight forward. “I personally guarantee 1.2 million euros to keep the club afloat.”

Smit did not agree with Veerman’s criticism and reacted emotionally. The chairman of FC Volendam thought it was ‘very low’ that Veerman gave his comments on the information evening and still played well on Tuesday.

Trainer Wim Jonk kept his mouth shut all evening, but eventually hit back at all critics. “There has been a lobby from management levels to players to kick me out. That disappoints me.”

During the closing speech, Smit and associates tried to seduce Veerman into the reasons behind stopping Keje Molenaar. “It was a decision of the Supervisory Board and I do not think it is appropriate to go into it now”, Veerman responded.
