The fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. in the garage of the five-story building. A hundred firefighters and 37 fire trucks had to be deployed to extinguish the flames.
When the emergency services arrived, several people were already ready to jump out of the window. The fire brigade was able to bring them down safely with the help of ladder trucks.

Meanwhile, the public prosecutor of Lyon has opened an investigation into voluntary arson. According to the chairman of the Lyon city district Bruno Bernard, a criminal act is “unmistakably” at the root of the fire. It is not clear whether there is a link with the riots of recent days that also raged in Lyon.
