Firefighters are no longer allowed to buy discarded helmets as souvenirs

Another long tradition comes to an end at the fire brigade! And that pisses off a lot of employees.

Until last year, they could buy discarded parts of their protective gear privately. The helmets were especially popular.

► The reason: the women and men went with them for years to the missions. They have a lot of memories attached to them.

But since February that’s over! Because “the renewed placing on the market (…) the Berlin fire brigade is considered a commercial dealer,” says an internal statement. This is associated with a “multiple of commitments” that cannot be entered into.

Employees are also now prohibited from selling or giving away parts of the protective equipment. Reason: “The protective effect cannot (any longer) be guaranteed.”
