The Westhoek fire brigade received slightly fewer calls. The firefighters responded about 116 times. 56 calls were related to flooding and the remaining 60 were for storm damage.
Today the fire brigade remains vigilant. “We suspect that the watch levels will continue to be exceeded throughout the day. This may result in some waterways and streams that will overflow their banks and in some places could flow over streets,” the Westhoek fire brigade said. Those streets will therefore remain closed all day. The fire brigade urges everyone not to ignore the signs and certainly not to remove them.
