Fire in Valkenswaard residential area: ‘Maybe someone wants to bully us away’

Two cars and a fence went up in flames in Valkenswaard during the night from Sunday to Monday. The owner of the house next door was not at home at the time. Her daughter was there, but the fire did not wake her. The fire brigade has evacuated her and their dwarf Keeshond. The fear is good: “Last week the police were already here.”

The owner of the house is shocked on her couch. Last night the fire raged right next to their house on Sparrenlaan. Because the daughter did not wake up, the fire brigade sawed through the shutters at the front door to get in.

Police believe the fire may have been started. “I have no idea where this must come from,” says the woman. Maybe someone wants to bully us away. Last week, the police were also there because someone had reported a nursery.”

The woman has already spoken to local residents who have cameras installed. “Those images are now going to the police. It probably shows a car that stopped here and then turned back. Hopefully they can catch the perpetrator.”

Explosions
Local residents were awakened around 3 a.m. by a number of explosions and the horn of a car. “I thought I was dreaming,” says a neighbor. “I woke my husband up because I thought I heard shots.” That turned out to be a number of explosions at the car that was on fire.

Neighbor Sebastiaan is also shocked. “My wife and I heard some stumbling last night and then glass clinking. Not much later our whole bedroom was lit up with an orange glow.” They immediately called the fire brigade. “A minute later we heard four or five explosions. It was very scary because we were afraid there were still people inside.”

Cars and fence
The fire raged in the Sparrenlaan around three o’clock on Sunday night. Two cars and a fence burned down. The daughter and dog, who were taken from the house by the fire service, were unharmed.
