Fire in the Peel: ‘A small disaster for nature’

The aftermath of the fire is visible over a large area. Plants, trees, everything is scorched. A bench is also completely black because of the flames. “For nature, this is a minor disaster,” says forester Schram. “Larger animals such as badgers, deer and birds can of course just get away. Smaller animals, such as reptiles and amphibians, cannot. They burn.”
