A fire broke out in the technical room of the Mariendorf indoor swimming pool on Thursday afternoon. Nobody was injured.

In the afternoon, a thick cloud of smoke drifted from the indoor swimming pool on Ankogelweg towards Marienfelder Chaussee. The police warned of the smoke. Residents should keep windows and doors closed.

The fire department was alerted around 2 p.m. There were 16 bathers in the indoor pool at the time. The fire was extinguished and ventilated at 3:54 p.m. The fire department was on site with 40 emergency services.

“There was a lot of smoke. A switch box was on fire,” said a spokeswoman for the Berliner Bäderbetriebe to BZ. The swimming pool had to be evacuated immediately. “The bathers and the swimming pool staff had to leave the pool immediately,” the spokeswoman continued.

The swimming pool remains closed for the rest of the day. Whether it can reopen on Friday will be decided during Thursday evening.
