A fire is raging in a conference and recreation center in Bakkeveen, just across the provincial border. No one was injured, the approximately one hundred guests and staff were able to leave the building in time. A wedding was in progress at the time of the fire.
The fire in the main building broke out for a short time. The fire is mainly raging in the roof. The fire is said to have broken out around 7 p.m. in a meter cupboard in the kitchen. Later it spilled over to the first floor.
The main building must be considered lost, says a spokesman for the fire department. The fire service was able to prevent the fire from spreading to an adjacent building with meeting rooms.
Fire brigades from Drenthe, Friesland and Groningen are fighting the fire.
