Fire destroys barn with calves, probably killing several animals

A fire has been burning in a warehouse of an agricultural company on the Schuivenoordseweg in Terheijden since a quarter to six on Monday morning. The farm keeps cows and calves. According to the police, animals have been injured and killed, but it is still unclear how many animals are involved

The cause of the fire will be investigated later. The barn that is on fire consists of two parts. There are machines in one part and cows in the other. There is a fire-resistant separation between the two parts.

The side of the warehouse where equipment is stored is on fire. 100 calves are said to have been evacuated from the adjacent area. In the shed next door, which has been spared, there are still about 250 cows.

The fire brigade is fighting the fire with a lot of equipment, including various tanker sprayers, a large water transport, a measuring team and the large fan. The fire has been scaled up to a very large fire.

No danger of fire spreading
According to a 112 correspondent, the house is located quite a distance from the barn and there is no danger of the fire spreading there. The smoke became a lot less around half past seven, the 112 correspondent reports.

The smoke released during the fire in Terheijden caused problems for traffic on the A59 highway.
