Fire brigade extinguishes spreading attic fire in New Amsterdam

A fire broke out in a house on the Vaart Zuidzijde in New Amsterdam last night. The fire raged in the attic of the building.

The fire started around 3 a.m. Several fire crews from the area were called. They extinguished the fire from an aerial platform, among other things. This allowed the firefighters to get closer to the seat of the fire.

After a while the fire was under control, reports a spokesperson for the Drenthe Safety Region. “It was a blazing fire with quite a bit of smoke development.”

The residents had to temporarily leave their homes. There is a barbershop at the bottom of the building. The exact damage is still being measured.

The Vaart Zuidzijde was closed during the fire. It is not known how this could arise.
