Fire brigade back to Sallandse Heuvelrug for small fires

Small fires flared up again in some places on Monday morning in the heath area of ​​the Sallandse Heuvelrug. At the request of the site managers, the Twente fire brigade is once again working on extinguishing the fire in the nature reserve. On Sunday, a major wildfire broke out near the Holterberg in Overijssel, which destroyed an area the size of forty football fields.

The fire brigade is also working on extinguishing the smoldering area on Monday morning. High winds can easily rekindle fire. Later this week, technicians from the fire service, among others, will investigate the cause of the fire, because nothing is known about it yet. More than 150 firefighters were needed to fight the blaze on Sunday.

Phase 2 applies to wildfire risk throughout the country. This means that it is very dry and that a wildfire can easily break out. The fire brigade and site owners are extra alert and deploy extra people and equipment. Open fires, such as campfires and barbecuing, are prohibited almost everywhere. This often also applies to the release of wishing balloons, warns the fire brigade.
