Fire at recycling company in Amsterdam has been extinguished | NOW

The fire that broke out on Friday evening in a mountain of scrap metal at a recycling company in Amsterdam’s Westelijk Havengebied was extinguished shortly after midnight.

The fire brigade advises local residents to close doors and windows, turn off the ventilation, avoid smoke and not come to the Kwadrantweg, the location of the fire. Due to the serious smoke development, an NL-alert was sent around 9.10 pm.

After the fire broke out around 7.45 pm, the fire brigade with cars and a fire boat. The smoke was clearly visible in various places in and outside the city.

The fire brigade said earlier in the evening that they were putting out the fire “with all their might”. No hazardous substances have been measured, although smoke is always harmful, according to a spokesperson for the fire service.
