The fire at a company at the Kosterij in Broek op Langedijk is under control. The fire broke out in a building for car and ship electricity around 7:15 pm and quickly spread. Due to the rapid scaling up, the flames were quickly under control.
During the fire, toxic substances were released in the building, a spokesperson for the Noord-Holland Noord Safety Region told NH Nieuws. No toxic substances have been released outside the building, but there is a strong odor.
Because materials such as engines, dynamos and batteries are present in the company – which can cause large smoke development – a large deployment was made with emergency services. The smoke development was ultimately not that bad, local residents did not have to close windows and doors.
De Kosterij is a street on the industrial estate along the N245 (Schagerweg) on the edge of Broek op Langedijk. The road was closed.
It is not yet clear how the fire started. That is now being investigated. No one was injured.
