Fire apartment complex Breda: new locks and security guards

Housing association Laurentius is taking measures after the fire in an apartment complex in Breda on Wednesday. The landlord of the building will replace the locks of the garage doors and storage rooms. Security guards will also be present from Thursday evening, because no one is allowed to enter the garage and to keep an eye on the houses.

Earlier this day, the residents of sixteen apartments were not yet able to enter their homes. According to a spokesman for Laurentius, it is unclear how many there are now.

“We are working with all our might on the recovery. As soon as the situation is safe, the residents can return to their own homes,” says spokesperson Leontine Klaase. “In the meantime, we are easily accessible and our employees are present at the complex to whom they can go with questions.”

No water in the complex
Due to a leak in the building, the water has been shut off. That problem is now resolved. “We are currently getting replacement water pipes from Amsterdam and reconnecting the water as soon as possible,” said the spokesperson.

Hundreds of apartments evacuated
A fire broke out in the parking garage under the apartment complex in Monseigneur Zwijsenstraat on Wednesday evening. Hundreds of apartments had to be evacuated. According to local residents, it is the third fire in three days at the bottom of the building. Police say they are investigating the fire. They don’t yet know what caused it.
