Fire alarm goes off during exam, students have to retake exam

Bad luck for pre-vocational secondary education students at Maurick College in Vught. They all have to retake their German final exams. On Friday, the fire alarm went off during the test, forcing everyone to leave the building. The Education Inspectorate declared the exam invalid.

The National Action Committee for Students (LAKS) has received eight complaints about the fire alarm during the exam. The organization confirms that the test has been rejected as a result. “Very annoying,” says a spokesperson.

As a result, students in Vught with German in their package will not be told on June 14 whether they have passed, like the rest of the Netherlands. They must retake the German final exam in the second period, which starts on June 19.

The second period is intended for students who have to resit or who were unable to take their exam during the first period. If the students of Maurick College then need a resit, they must do so in August, in the third period.

The school has not yet commented on the incident. The LAKS spokesperson says that they will contact Maurick College on Monday to find out exactly what happened.
