Once calm was restored, the firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to the central grandstand, but the smoke and flames in any case prompted the immediate evacuation of the stadium and advised the cancellation of the post-match press conferences. The extinguishing operations lasted all night, while policemen and carabinieri escorted the away fans out of the city to avoid contact with the locals.
