Fire after Taranto-Foggia: the away sector goes up in flames, no one is injured

The flames were set by Foggia fans, who then threw stones at the firefighters who had rushed to put out the fire. Sector declared unusable, identification of those responsible is underway

Post match literally on fire in Taranto, where, after the derby with Foggia won 2-0 by the rossoblùs, a fire broke out in the Curva Sud, a sector reserved for guests. Extensive damage was done to the stadium, with the sector now declared unusable, but fortunately no injuries were recorded.

the cause

According to some witnesses, which Digos is verifying, the fire was caused by a smoke bomb, coming from the host sector and thrown on plastic materials and rolls of tar stored under the stands.

THE SMOKE AND THE CLEARANCE

The flames then spread from the segment of the stadium occupied by the Rossoneri fans and developed a dense cloud of smoke. The approximately 250 Foggia supporters had only entered the stadium in the middle of the second half, due to an accident on the 106 state road which had delayed the arrival of the guests. Upon entering the stadium, smoke bombs and firecrackers rained down on the field from Foggia fans. At the end of the race instead the fire, which quickly spread.

the intervention and the unrest

The firefighters immediately intervened on the spot with six vehicles: upon their arrival, the ultras of Foggia pelted them with a thick stone throw. Once calm was restored, the firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to the central grandstand, but the smoke and flames in any case prompted the immediate evacuation of the stadium and advised the cancellation of the post-match press conferences. The extinguishing operations lasted all night, while policemen and carabinieri escorted the away fans out of the city to avoid contact with the locals. Some ultras from Foggia have been identified, while analyzes of the video surveillance material are underway to ascertain individual responsibilities.
