One of the best javelin throwers in Finland Julia Valtanen22, was injured in a seemingly brutal way at the Jyväskylä GP on Wednesday.
The woman’s left leg gave out during the performance.
– It felt like the leg just clicked. I don’t know if Achilles or what. I didn’t dare to do anything after that. Now let’s go to the emergency room in Jyväskylä and it will be sorted out there. It’s really sad, Valtanen said.
Valtanen’s leg was heavily taped and he moved out of the stadium with sticks.
– I don’t know how badly it broke, when nothing has gone wrong before.
The two-sport athlete said that this season he will not play baseball, but the plan was to focus entirely on the javelin throw.
Raumalainen has raced at his best this season with 53.34. The record is 57.91 from the 2020 season.
Japan won Wednesday’s race Yuka Sato (58,57). The best Finn was in third place Anni-Linnea Alanen (57,72).
Valtanen’s result was 45.45.
