The Hong Kong-flagged ship was near the gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia when the leak occurred. China last month called for an “objective, fair and professional” investigation into the circumstances of the damage. The Chinese Foreign Ministry also said at the time that it would exchange information with the Finnish authorities.
The leak was reminiscent of the still unexplained explosions that disabled the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines between Russia and Germany last year.
