The Finnish technology company Tietoevry has been the target of a blackmail attack. A ransomware attack was carried out on one of the company’s data centers in Sweden on the night between Friday and Saturday.
Ransomware that is ransomware is a program that can be used to encrypt all files on an infected device or to lock the device completely. The criminal using the program then informs the owner of the device that he can only decrypt it if he pays the criminal a ransom in bitcoins.
According to Ilta-Sanom the attack has affected some services operating in Sweden, such as Rusta, Filmstaden and Stadium. Rusta’s and Stadium’s websites are currently not operational.
Infoevry says in his announcement, that the company immediately isolated the platform exposed to the attack and that the attack has not otherwise affected its infrastructure. Tietoevry says that extensive measures are being taken to investigate the situation and find a solution. The company says it has been in contact with customers affected by the strike.
– We apologize for the problems caused to our customers by this disgusting attack. We have allocated all possible resources to handle the situation. We take the situation extremely seriously and have also notified the police, the release states.
Tietoevry offers services related to cloud technology, data and software. The company has developed, for example, production control solutions for social and health care, the Tax Administration’s credit register and artificial intelligence tools to support diagnostics.
