Desired goalkeeper leaves FSV
Finn Dahmen will definitely leave FSV Mainz 05 this summer. Transfermarkt can confirm what had already been indicated. The 24-year-old goalkeeper will embark on a new adventure when his contract expires and after a total of five years with the “Nil-Five”. As our editorial team has learned, the player side is already holding very concrete talks with potential new employers.

The group of numerous interested parties is led by PSV Eindhoven and FC Schalke 04. Last summer Hertha BSC advertised intensively for the keeper’s services, but no agreement was reached. PSV currently has to do without Walter Benítez (30) between the posts, who has suffered a serious knee injury – it’s still unclear how the top Dutch club can plan in the summer. The Royal Blues had joined Alexander Schwolow from Hertha on loan for the 2022/23 season, but the 30-year-old has since been ousted by the veteran Ralf Fährmann (34). It is considered very likely that Schalke will therefore work on a new solution with a greater perspective in goal for the coming season.

Dahmen played eight games in the Bundesliga and in the cup for his training club Mainz this season. After his injury break in the meantime, the actual number one Robin Zentner (28) was able to play again in the 4-0 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Coach Bo Svensson had previously left the goalkeeper question open. “It’s a difficult decision, but we’re not complaining that we have two such good goalkeepers. I have to disappoint someone, but it’s better that way than if we lack quality,” explained the coach after Dahmen drew attention to himself as a reliable alternative.
Already at the beginning of February, the native of Wiesbaden, who has played through almost all junior national teams since the U15, confirmed to the “Bild”: “Mainz has decided in favor of Robin several times in recent years. That’s why I’m assuming that my time in Mainz will end in the summer.” This tendency has meanwhile become a certainty. He had “sat on the bench long enough,” said Dahmen at the time.
