26-year-old Oliver Helander is perhaps Finland’s biggest javelin hope going into the 2024 season.
Helander shared a video on Instagram around Christmas, based on which, at least in theory, even longer arcs are possible.
In the video, Helander squats 153 kilos. This is a man’s record in the parallel pull.
– Another record at the end of a successful training camp, Helander wrote.
If the video doesn’t appear below, you can watch it from this link.
The performance garnered praise from well-known colleagues in the comments.
– Strong boy, Wilma Murto wrote with a biceps emoji.
– Good brother, Neeraj ChopraTokyo Olympic champion and 2023 World Cup gold medalist, boasted.
Helander’s coach is a Finnish javelin legend Tero Pitkämäkiwho in his career hurled the javelin over 85 meters no less than 13 consecutive seasons from 2005–17.
During Pitkämäki’s career, it was described that the man has “strength like in that famous small village”. In 2017, Pitkämäki’s parallel pull-up result was announced in Iltalehti as 155 kilos.
At the beginning of December, Helander published a video in which he did a parallel pull-up for a series of five repetitions with 135 kilograms.
Helander, on the other hand, threw a four-kilogram ball backwards 26.73 meters. According to Helander, this result is also his record.
– The basic features are top class. There is no one in the final who is physically tougher than Oliver, and the technical skills are good. No one is ahead in terms of potential, Pitkämäki said in 2022 before the World Cup final.
Helander’s career has been overshadowed by injuries and the resulting small number of throws.
In 2022, Helander announced in an interview with IL that at the 2024 summer Olympics he should be in good shape and fight for the gold medal.
Helander has tagged his recent videos with the subject tag #roadtoparis, trip to Paris.
The European Track and Field Championships will be held in Rome in June. The Olympics will be held in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024.
Helander’s best throw this year was 87.32, with which he was the leader in Finland’s statistics before Toni Kuuselaa (84.37) and 2022 EC bronze medalist A glass of Etelätaloa (83.42).
At the World Championships in Budapest in August, Helander was seventh.
