The judge of the cake competition, Teemu Aura, was very impressed with the level of the competition. According to him, the cakes baked by the children in particular were really skillful, both in terms of taste and technique.

According to Luna Halinen, who won the children’s competition, the best thing about baking is of course tasting the dough.

– When I was little, I baked blueberry pie, Christmas peppers and buns with my grandmother, among other things. Grandma and I still bake together quite often. I like baking, because baking also allows you to have fun and try everything. It’s not too serious, says Halinen.

The jury thanked the winner of the appearance category for the original, very skillful implementation that even resembles a modern work of art. Minna Vauhkonen

Andrea Fichtmüller’s cake decorated with a unicorn won the appearance category.

– The inspiration for this cake came from abstract art and fantasy. I love experimenting with colors and shapes. When I work on a cake, I let my thoughts and feelings free. The mushrooms and flowers are made of waffle paper, painted with edible colors and dried. The unicorn is made of cake pop dough, says Fichtmüller.

He states that he likes challenging cake ideas. Then you never know when you start how you will succeed.

– My cake ideas change as I implement them. None of my cakes look the same. That’s why I can’t describe the details in advance, but the biggest influence on this cake clearly comes from crafts like macrame and quilting.

The winner of the Maku series, Nella Suutari, reveals that she always thought she had no artistic gifts, but in baking she discovered that she does.

– My own development inspires me to bake more and try new things for myself. When baking, you can get your thoughts elsewhere and your mind calms down. Autumn brings to my mind a lot of memories, so the inspiration for the cake came quite easily this season.

In the cake, Suutari uses apples from his own garden. It has a carrot cake base and an apple-vanilla and kinuski filling. The cake also has caramelized apple kinuski, kinuski sauce and oat crumble. It’s topped with meringue buttercream.

There was humor in the cakes baked by the children. Eeva Paljakka
