The combined quartet was only eighth in the team competition.
PASSI FLAME
– A lousy race from Finland. When we are eight, it says it all.
– Initially, you knew that Norway, Austria, Germany and Japan were fighting for the medal, and on peak day there could be an opportunity to challenge, but it was not even close.
Combined youth world champion Arttu Mäkiahon comments after the Chinese Olympic team competition emptied the workshop.
Finland was eighth. The loss to Norway, the winning country, was 2.39.0.
– On the hill I was the biggest disappointment. I didn’t get a good job in the race. And the fire was quenched, and it was recompensed on a great hill; Ilkka Herola commented and pointed out that Finland was also eighth after the hill section.
The Finnish men met with delicate medal hopes before the five-ring race, but the ball was 1.45.
– There wasn’t much left in my hand. A mystery when nothing is normal. Why is skiing so difficult? No athlete got anywhere in any of the races here in China, said the Finnish head coach Petter Kukkonen.
In addition to Mäkiaho and Herola, the blue and white team competed Eero Hirvonen mixed Perttu Reponen.
– We have been doing high-level training for three years. We have had some of the best experts in Finland, and the training has been adapted to be as good as this sport. But in China, the bodies of athletes simply did not play. It would be nice to know where you have been driven to mine.
Norway won the team competition with gold, Germany (+54.9) with silver and Japan (+55.2) with bronze.
Kukkonen’s head coaching season at the helm of Finland, which began in 2012, will end this spring. In the era of the passionate pilot, Finland’s best Team Ranking was fourth in the 2015 Falun Doubles Championship. In the team competition of four athletes, Finland was fifth at best.
