Ukraine can use weapons supplied by Finland to attack targets on Russian territory, Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen told Finnish broadcaster ‘Yle’. Finland has not imposed any restrictions on Ukraine on the use of the weapons supplied, ‘Politico’ reports.

Finland approved its 22nd military aid package for Ukraine worth around 190 million euros in February. As with previous aid packages, Helsinki did not reveal which weapons were involved or when they would be delivered for security reasons.

“Ukraine must also be able to strike military targets on Russian territory if necessary. This is an absolutely legal defensive battle that Ukraine is waging. The UN Charter allows attacking military targets across national borders,” said Jukka Kopra, a member of the Finnish parliament.

Hakkanen said the restrictions were mainly imposed by countries that have supplied long-range weapons to Ukraine.

“At this point, the major countries, which have, among other things, supplied long-range missile systems, of course also have the right to determine how they may be used,” Hakkanen said, adding that Finland is in constant discussions with allies about restrictions imposed on Ukraine .

Hakkanen has also urged allies to supply Ukraine with more long-range missiles, including German Taurus systems. “I urge Germany to think about this seriously. The German government knows that they would be of enormous importance. If they want to help Ukraine win, they could deliver,” he said.

Finland has already provided 1.8 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s large-scale invasion.
