Finland has received two medals from the European Games, when Miina Sirkeoja and Ommi Mingsupphakun took bronze medals for themselves in Thai boxing.

Mingsupphakun won bronze in the under 63.5 kg category. He faced a Turk in the semi-finals Bediha Tacyildizwhich was however stronger with 30–27 points.

Thus, the Finn secured the bronze medal.

– At the end of the day, I’m quite proud of my achievements. These were my biggest value races so far and I did pretty well for such a multiple world champion. You just have to train more and come back stronger, Mingsupphakun said in the press release of the Finnish Olympic Committee.

Sirkeoja met Matilde De Melo Rodriguenbut the Portuguese won the semifinal with a score of 30–27.

It meant that Sirkeoja secured the bronze for the under-57-kilogram category.

– The match was very even and in the last set I gave my all. I still thought when the verdict was announced that it would be possible for my hand to be raised. That didn’t happen and I’m really disappointed. The medal is the wrong color, I didn’t come here to get this. There’s nothing to help but get over the frustration and start training harder next week, Sirkeoja lamented.
